Ulu (pronounced: oo-loo) are all-around, all-purpose knives used by a wide
variety of arctic cultures. Originating in Siberia as stone knives and having migrated through
the Alaskan and Canadian arctic regions, these crescent shaped blades are highly
versatile and exceedingly effective. So much so in fact that modern hunters,
butchers and chefs have rediscovered them and most kitchen stores have variants
under the guise of "dish knives" or "chopping knives".
The blade was made by Kelley Ward of Hardedge Knives in Northern California
(on whose site this knife can also be seen) while the
antler was supplied by the owner. The knife assembly and custom sheath were
executed by our in-house craftsmen.
