This is quite a special knife. The blade was made by a smith who works
anonymously under the pseudonym Nodoka Neko (more about him here) as a gift to
our shop. It was patterned after an antique D-Guard bowie but made using
traditional Japanese methods, resulting in the five distinct hamon
that show up quite nicely in the body of the blade. For those familiar with
Japanese blades, I can tell you that there are a whole lot of very attractive
activities in the hamon, and it is far more exciting in person. The blade was
mounted in our shop. The guard and pommel are made of high-satin polished steel
and brass while the grip is purple heart and cinnamon root burl with a brass
spacer, and the pins are bamboo. |
